چکیده

This study extends the authors’ previous numerical and experimental studies simulating progressive collapse of steel stiffened-plate structures in fire events (Paik JK, Ryu MG, He KH, Lee DH, SY, Park DK, Thomas G. 2021a. Full-scale testing to stiffened plate under lateral patch loading (part 1) – without passive protection. Ships Offsh Struct. 16(3):227–242; Paik 2021b. 2) with 16(3):243–254; SI, G, JK. 2021. Finite element modeling for analysis fires. Thin-Walled 159:107262). Specifically, this demonstrates that computational models developed earlier can be applied heat transfer fire-induced behaviour topside a ship-shaped offshore installation. To end, hypothetical VLCC-class floating, production, storage offloading (FPSO) unit hull structure is considered, transient thermal elastic-plastic large-deformation finite are used. The novelty its contribution industry development practical procedure ensure safety large-scale steel-plated complex geometries.

PROGRESSIVE COLLAPSE ANALYSIS OF RCC STRUCTURES

The  study  aims  to  investigate  the  progressive  collapse  behaviour  of  RCC  building  under extreme  loading  events  such  as  gas  explosion  in  kitchen,  terroristic  attack,  vehicular collisions  and  accidental  overloads.  The  behavioural  changes  have  been  investigated  and node displacements  are computed when the building is subjected to sudden collapse of the  load beari...

investigating the feasibility of a proposed model for geometric design of deployable arch structures

deployable scissor type structures are composed of the so-called scissor-like elements (sles), which are connected to each other at an intermediate point through a pivotal connection and allow them to be folded into a compact bundle for storage or transport. several sles are connected to each other in order to form units with regular polygonal plan views. the sides and radii of the polygons are...

A practical approach to fire hazard analysis for offshore structures.

Offshore quantitative risk assessments (QRA) have historically been complex and costly. For large offshore design projects, the level of detail required for a QRA is often not available until well into the detailed design phase of the project. In these cases, the QRA may be unable to provide timely hazard understanding. As a result, the risk reduction measures identified often come too late to ...

Threat-Independent Column Removal and Fire-Induced Progressive Collapse: Numerical Study and Comparison

Progressive collapse is defined as the spread of an initial failure from element to element, eventually resulting in the collapse of an entire structure or a disproportionately large part of it. The current progressive collapse analyses and design methods in guidelines and codes focus on the alternate load path method. This method is suitable especially in the case of blast-induced progressive ...

Progressive Collapse of Structures

Local failure of one structural element may result in the failure of another structural element. Failure might thus progress throughout a major part or even all of the structure. After reviewing a couple of failure events, it is outlined why current probabilitybased design codes are inadequate to prevent progressive collapse. It is discussed how these shortcomings might be overcome both within ...
